I've been reading Matthew Yglesias since 2003, and he's been a huge influence on my political views. He studied philosophy at Harvard, and he just put up a list of the ten books that had the most influence on him. Reasons and Persons is at the top. Lots of other interesting things there too. As somebody who teaches philosophy, it made me happy.
Being that I am a fan of lists and your blog, when are you going to post your top 10, Neil?
ReplyDelete- Curious Nerd
Hmm, let me think about it!
ReplyDeleteYes, but the goodness conferred on the list by the presence of Parfit was negated by the presence of Rorty.
ReplyDeleteIf Rorty has a redeeming virtue, it's that he got Matt to become a political blogger rather than a philosopher.
ReplyDeleteI think Matt would've been a fine philosopher, but he's perhaps uniquely suited to be the person who sits in the CAP office, absorbs the best thoughts of the smart lefty wonks around him, and shoots out 15 blog posts in 24 hours. Nobody in blogging puts up as many good ideas per day.
The public has spoken:
ReplyDeleteWe want Neil's Top Ten!
Sincerely,
Carl
