Imagine my excitement when the post below suddenly appeared with 5 comments! Then imagine my annoyance when they all turned out to be comment spam. Now, loyal readers, you'll have to go through the annoying step of typing an additional word to prove you're not an evil spam robot. Sorry about that.

You might be smart to switch to haloscan commenting. I don't really get hit with spam. I do, in fact, have to deal with the world's meanest people, but I'm used to it.

Thanks, by the way, for all your smart, insightful and nice comments. I think I would lose faith in humanity if not for people like you, and I sure as hell wouldn't be brave enough to write anything.

Wow. Bunny. You're welcome. As you know, I'm a huge fan of you and your writing.

The reason I don't do Haloscan is that occasionally my commenters (particularly the philosophers) leave very long comments that would be cut off by their 3000-character limit. I've thought about moving my whole blog to typepad, as I see they have a nice comment interface, and typepad blogs seem to get less spam.

Typepad is also pretty good about responding to spammers if you report them, so you essentially contribute to a very large databse for their spam filter.
