Lead into gold

Buy a Brita filter, and you can turn repulsive nasty vodka into nice smooth vodka. So claim these dudes [link dead]. If this works, it'll be awesome! I sort of wonder, though, why the makers of crappy vodka don't run a process like this, improve the quality of their vodka, and sell it at higher prices.

If you're wondering if this has any connection to philosophy, remember that I'm a utilitarian. Good cheap vodka! Hedons for all!

Nope.

You'll be happy to hear the House tried this when it first appeared on slashdot.org (well, we tried it while hanging at a gaming session. No noticable improvement.

I don't know - I'm often indifferent to the taste of vodka of any kind by the 5th shot or so, which is when these guys decide that the cheap vodka is really starting to taste good.

Really? What was the cheap vodka you put in? I don't recall seeing any nasty vodka on your shelves, though maybe you bought it later.
